Lancaster Triva - True or False:

Lancaster was briefly the nation’s capital for a single day?

True: The Continental Congress fled west during the Revolutionary War in September 1777 as the British captured Philadelphia. Back 248 years ago, heading about 70 miles to Lancaster took 1-2 days. Moving at roughly the pace of 3-5 mph over muddy, uneven and poorly maintained roads.

They met up at the Lancaster County Courthouse for a single day before then crossing the Susquehanna over to the even safer respite of York where they stayed for almost a year.

Around a year later back in Philly, they signed the Constitution although probably not over a cheesesteak which didn’t begin making taste bud waves until 1930-ish.

Track Down Your Perfect Turkey

Finding a flavorful centerpiece for your family-centered feast is made wildly easier as we live in one of the meccas for tasty birds. Ready to source a local & fresh turkey? Take a look at the sampling we pulled together below.

We rounded up 6 of Lanc’s finest turkey farms. Cheers to ordering early many farms are known to sell out!

Fun Fact: Lancaster is also home to the oldest turkey farm in the US which began back in 1858 in Ronks (Esbenshades)

Lancaster’s Top 5 Things-To-Do This Week

  1. The American Music Theatre is turning into the St. Nicholas Hotel for the holidays complete with singing bellhops, festive guests, and a surprise visit from The Man himself. Deck the Halls! isn’t just a show…it’s Lancaster’s way of kicking off the season that hits you right in the feels. watch it here

  2. Decades is throwing a holiday market the only way they know how, with retro arcade vibes, local makers, and a craft drink in hand. The Loot Drop Holiday Market (Nov 22, 12–4 pm) turns the Stahr Armory into a mash-up of vintage finds, handmade goods, and 80s & 90s vibes. Think local shopping that actually feels fun…grab a beer, play a few games, and support Lancaster’s creatives all in one place. play & buy here

  3. Catch the holiday magic at Strasburg Rail Roadhop on a vintage steam engine, cruise through Amish Country with the jingle of sleigh bells, meet Santa (and maybe Mrs. Claus), and create a memory that feels straight out of a Christmas storybook. ride the rails here

  4. The Lemonheads are rolling through Lititz on November 18 for their ‘Love Chant’ World Tour and they’re bringing that 90s alt-rock energy back to life at Mickey’s Black Box. Expect a mix of nostalgic hits and fresh tracks from their new album, all in one of Lancaster County’s coolest live-music venues.

  5. Sunday mornings stretch different at West Art. Their community yoga class (9:30–10:30 a.m.) blends movement, mindfulness, and good local energy. No pressure, no perfection…just community showing up to breathe and reset. It’s pay-what-you-can, which feels right for a space that calls itself Lancaster’s Living Room. Grab your mat, find your balance, and finish with a drink at their Coffee Bar afterwards. move your body here
