Lancaster Farm Sanctuary
Meet Jude.
Although…you’ve probably already met his mural. Born with a cleft palate at a local dairy and headed for abandonment, he arrived at Lancaster Farm Sanctuary with four major infections and spent months hospitalized. Now he’s fully recovered, has one of the county’s most memorable murals, and writes letters to school kids as their classroom pen pal. Impressive bovine turnaround.
Jude’s mural is the background of today’s cover art. Fun fact: There are 20 marigolds in it…for 2020, the year Jude was born.
The stained glass in the foreground is Leslie Huff's version of that mural. It's my favorite thing in the whole auction, and it could be yours forever.
Last Saturday, launched Lancaster Farm Sanctuary’s annual auction fundraiser. There are more than 240 things to bid on; every dollar goes to giving rescued animals a second chance in life.
Within days of tickets going live, the Gala sold out (there’s always next year), but the online auction is open to all of us: original artwork, local goods, dining and getaway packages, sporting event tickets, and experiences you can't buy anywhere else.
LFS started in 2017 in Mount Joy, when Sarah Salluzzo and Jonina Turzi looked around Lancaster County and noticed there was no sanctuary for injured, abandoned, or lost farm animals. The ol’internet estimates that there are about 30 million farm animals in Lancaster County. So, Sarah & Jonina built a place of welcome, safety, and rehabilitation.
The farm houses many animals including Lilith the horse, who arrived from an abusive horse rescue. Then there’s Pumpkin the pig, who came out of a puppy mill breeding pet pigs, and Tammy the turkey, who escaped a farm before Thanksgiving. These animals have a safe place to live out their lives at the sanctuary.
The auction is live and ends this Saturday at 730p.
Right on West King Street in Lancaster City, Envy Studio has been making Lancaster better-looking, one head at a time. I found my way there recently for a “model” sitting. Those air quotes are spot-on. Thanks to the newsletter, I crossed paths with Andreya, who was welcoming a few new male clients.
