Together with Fontana Candle Company

Mornin’ Loopers, I hope your weekend had something good in it!
Mine turned into an impromptu camping trip along Conoy Creek. A campfire, our tradition of matzo ball soup on the coals, and tunes drifting over from Nissley Vineyards.
Turns out our tent was within singing distance of a cover set by Saved by the 90s at the vineyard.
Cheers to finding a fall spot to sleep outdoors…90s jams optional.
See ya ‘round Lancaster!

Today’s cover art is by returning graphic artist Isabel Imbriano. She created the above graphic for the Dinner Club pins and can be reached through her Instagram. Last week’s poll asked how much you thought the Jude Mural stained glass art would sell for. The winning bid was $975. The Loop readership nailed it…

FIVE LOOPER LOCAL LIMELIGHTS
Bad Saints Jazz Festival - Oct 3rd & 4th
Lancaster is getting a jazz festival, and it's happening in two church buildings.
“Spend the weekend discovering local, regional, and touring artists pushing jazz in all kinds of beautiful directions—from brass bands and groove-heavy funk to Latin rhythms, soul, modern jazz, and plenty of music that doesn't fit neatly into a box!”
The first annual Bad Saints Jazz Festival takes over West Art and the Lancaster Theological Seminary on the weekend of October 3rd and 4th. Shows happen across three stages within one block of each other.
Theo Croker headlines Saturday night, Big Boy Brass closes it down Sunday, and in between you can find brass bands, funk, Latin rhythms, soul, and a range of music from multiple genres…all of it inspired by jazz.
Music runs all afternoon and all evening. Wander between rooms with coffee, beer, wine, and food vendors. And if a set isn't landing for you, walk twenty feet and explore another that does. The headlining shows are standing room only so you can move your body to the jams.
Grab full-weekend, single-day, or headliner tickets. Students get an extra break too.
grab your tickets
It’s the first year, so grab a t-shirt and find 17 musical acts all pointed towards reimagining jazz.
One Loop reader will get to attend for free with a friend or neighbor. Many thanks to Josh at West Art for donating two tickets. Guess below for your chance to win…
LOOPER POLL
Who holds the record, certified by the RIAA, for the best-selling jazz record of all time?
Restaurant Week - thru Sept 20th
Restaurant Week started yesterday, but there’s still plenty of time. Here’s a challenge for you…skip the place you always go and try something new.
Lancaster City Restaurant Week continues today through Sunday, with more than forty spots in the city putting out specials and deals. One of the best parts of living in Lancaster is the world culinary tour without ever using your passport.
Arepas at Chellas. Ramen at Alchemy. Tagine at Flavors of Morocco. Curry at Himalayan. Hummus at Layali El Sham. Rasta Pasta at Ragamuffin. Schnitzel at Cabbage Hill. Beignets at Lancaster Beignet Co.
You probably know how hard it can be for a restaurant to stay open. So, a week like this exists to support the small restaurants that make up the wide range of tastes we get to enjoy in Lancaster. It’s an easy way to show some love to the hardworking food artists and staff who make our county and city unique.
Challenge: Pick a spot you’ve driven past a hundred times and never walked into. Invite a neighbor. Order something new.
L’Italia Festival - Sat Sept 19th
Lititz is going full Italian. The L'Italia Festival takes over East Main Street between Cedar and Cherry Lane from 10-5p, and it's free.
What started as a small idea in 2022 is now a full day of Italian music and dance, cooking demos from Lancaster chefs, an Italian car show, craft stands, yard games, and a wine and beer garden where a spritz in one hand is mandatory.
Food and drinks for sale, and Pinocchio will be read out loud in Italian and English…no lie.
Lancaster Airshow - Sat & Sun Sept 19th & 20th
Some Saturdays you want to sit in a quiet coffee shop. Others you want to stand in a field and watch a human walk on the wing of a flying plane.
The Lancaster Airshow is this weekend! Gates open at 10 and close at 4 both days; flights are from noon to 2p. Come see Third Strike Wingwalking, Para-Commandos from SOCOM dropping out of the sky, and GhostWriter painting the sky with colored smoke.
If watching from the ground isn't enough for you, you can buy a ride on a B-25 Mitchell bomber, a Fairchild PT-19 open cockpit trainer, or a helicopter. Sixteen more aircraft are parked on the ground for viewing…walk right up to a Black Hawk or a Huey. All the Maverick and Goose vibes your heart desires.
Parking is free…as always. Bring earplugs, sunscreen, and a folding chair.
Stuff To Do Fair - Sat Sept 19th
Making friends as an adult can be hard, even when people are friendly.
So let’s grease the wheels. Here’s an event to find some new ways to play as an adult. Too often we forget how to play.
Cue the Nature & Gardening edition of the Stuff To Do Fair.
Sav, the energetic powerhouse behind the Stuff To Do Fair, welcomes local clubs, classes, and hobby groups to set up a table and tell you exactly how to join them. The fair is no cost, no registration…just show up and browse for your next great adventure.
This Saturday, along with CV Roundabout and CV Seeds, the Stuff To Do Fair is taking over East Lampeter Park and showcasing dozens of things….or...errr…stuff…to do.
So, why not say hi to a stranger and ask about your tomato growing woes? Worst case you leave with a seed packet and a story. Best case you just opened a new chapter of doing fun stuff.

In the midst of a cross-county move, Fontana kindly sponsored Monday night’s Unplugged event at Our Town Brewery, lit by their candles.
There are 47 days left until daylight saving time ends. Between now and November 1st we lose about 150 seconds of sunshine every day - a solid reason to buy some candles.
Fontana is Lancaster local & uses clean ingredients to light the night.

Where’s Wal’Ed’o?
Last week: I was back at Our Town Brewery for some pre-planning for Our Town Unplugged.
I drafted a few guessers…(bad dad joke). If your name is…David Craig, Jason Leisure, Kimberly Sauder, Donna Baker, John Stuster-Kim, Terry Finch, Dot Young, Laura Smith, Elisa Taylor, David Nagel-Nunez, Sam Fugagli, Melanie Weir, Galen Kreiser, Marti Buckwalter, Drake Naylor, Nancy OHalloran, Lila Martin….and you say hi at the next Unplugged event, I’ll buy you a drink!
Know a local shop you’d love to see featured in Where’s Wal’Ed’o? Shoot me a reply or an introduction to the owner. Feel free to forward this email to them as a starter.
👇 Click the pic to guess this week’s “Where’s Wal’Ed’o?” location 👇
Here’s a clue: There’s plenty of bounty at eye level here, but woodn't ya know, there's beauty up top too.
As always thanks for staying… in the ‘Loop! -Ed
P.S. Property Peek $459,900 for 3/2, 1,944 sf, 1.01 acres, outdoor fireplace, wooded lot, a treehouse, 3 garages, and a street name that’s hopefully not fitting for your life
bear skins not included
P.P.S. If you enjoyed today’s newsletter, forward it to the friend you’d invite to try a new restaurant around Lancaster City this week.
P.P.P.R. The ‘R’ stands for randomness; it’d take you 38 hours to drive or 947 hours to walk the 2,625 miles between these two cities, spelled the same but pronounced differently
