Lancaster local artist CRUMBS with one of his original artworks

Happy Fasnacht Day Loopers! Admittedly, “fasnacht” was not in my vocab a quick two years ago, but today I’ll be hunting one down with the rest of you. As I self-educated, “fasnacht” basically means ‘fast night’ or the night before the fast. Hope you find one today, also known as Shrove or Fat Tuesday, traditionally a day to use up the lard, sugar, & butter before Lent begins.

The Loop is a conduit for community showing up in real life. I’m so excited for the first Lancaster Loop Dinner Club where readers and neighbors of this newsletter will come together. In a little more than a week or 9 days to be specific, we will converge on Lancaster City restaurants and join up afterwards at Decades Lancaster for an optional after-party…tokens on deck: so grab your tix.

Let’s dive in! -Ed

Today’s opening ‘art comes by way of Lancaster local artist Andrew ‘CRUMBS’ Silvius.

He has a show opening this weekend at Foxduck in Lancaster City. He’ll be taking over the store, so stop by and mention the Lancaster Loop and CRUMBS will have a special t-shirt collab opportunity for you live in the studio! Details below in the 5Ws or find him here

Decades is a modern gathering place with a nostalgic twist in downtown Lancaster.

The full restaurant + bar, boutique bowling alley, and retro arcade takes me right back to my Bethany Beach summers where I’d spend all my saved quarters.

I’m pumped to announce they’re the official sponsor of the first Lancaster Loop Dinner Club afterparty.

After you meet your table of strangers-turned-friends and have a meal…we’re taking the party to Decades. You and other Dinner Club patrons will join up for a fun low-key after-party where everyone celebrates meeting new neighbors. Come enjoy some free tokens gifted by Decades and play arcade games! ironman super off road is my fav game

Lancaster Loop Dinner Club

Sponsored by Decades Lancaster

Love all the folks coming out to meet new friends and neighbors…just over 11 tables with 67 brave Lancastrians have signed up (no dad jokes). We have space for north of 100.

However, your table will stay low-key with just you and 5 new-to-you Lancaster Loop readers.

Quick recap: Take a quick quiz, get matched with 5 friendly Lancaster Loop members, receive your table assignment by text the morning of (cue thrill and suspense), pay your way for the meal, and then attend a free optional Decades after-dinner party.

Here’s some fun data on the age ranges of the Dinner Club.

Know any adventurous 20, 70, or 80 somethings you can send this invite to?

P.S. Just 9 days left to grab you ticket, support local restaurants & meet neighbors

Lancaster Valentine’s ‘Funtines’

I hope your Valentine Day was a sweet treat. Whether you chose to celebrate or not, I find joy in slowing down and celebrating any day I’m gifted to run around this ball of dirt.

We haven’t spot-checked all the places Mike and I hid notecards around the city this past Saturday morning…so there may be a few left out there if you look around Lancaster City. Tag us or reply to this email if you found (or find) one!

Thank you to Mike at Filtertracker and Tony at Denim Coffee (both Loop partners) for helping spread some joy in connection to the Rotary Club’s Hearts for Lancaster.

Check out our video to see if we gave your heart some extra LOVE…

Flight Tour of Lancaster Giveaway

In full honesty, I had too much “dad joke” fun putting this video recap together. If you love late 90’s jams, you know Creed takes us all higher and so does Red Rose Flight Tours.

Red Rose Flight Tours took Mike from Filtertracker and me up last week on a snow-covered tour of Lancaster.

Brendan is the owner who pilots a workhorse Cessna 172 Superhawk for private tours over the rolling farmlands, Central Market, or a cruise over the Susquehanna River.

Red Rose Flight Tour Giveaway Winners

The Red Rose Flight Tours giveaway is your way to see Lancaster from a whole new viewpoint. Everyone who guessed the length of the Lancaster Airport runway had a chance to win. There were also entries from socials. The correct answer was 6,933 feet. After taking a flight with Brendan, I’m sure he could land on 331 feet, but over a mile would probably be his preference!

The 3 winners of a flight tour are: Kimberly R., Yazzues and Becky P. Check your emails!

Many thanks to Brendan for offering a giveaway with wings

SUPPORT THE LANCASTER LOOP

Your Loop will always be 100% free to read, independently owned and locally operated (yep, it’s just me). It’s human curated, written and always will be.

Much love Loopers.

Making an impact on the next generation with Ripple Hub

Ripple Hub is a “home of the creatives”.

Launched by Lancaster native Alex Colon, it’s impacting young kids and putting real world skills and art directly in their hands.

Growing up Alex had no role models to show him opportunities, resources, or community. So he built what would have served him as a kid. This isn’t learning from a worksheet or textbook. With both in-school and after-school classes, Alex is opening actual pathways for people who create…and even those who didn’t know they can.

Their flagship Ripple Creators Program brings working artists into middle and high schools across Lancaster County and beyond to help students build skills, mentorship, and confidence through doing & creating.

If you’re wondering how you can support the next generation of Lancaster’s local talent, this is a great place to plug in with both your attention and your gifts. Reach out to Alex and connect.

Even better…do you own a business or have an event you’re planning?

Alex and his crew of talented future leaders at Ripple will bring the experience to you. Setting up shop and letting your customers or guests create beats and take home a unique 1-of-1 memory. Learn more at their site or follow their YouTube
