Together with Perfect Image Lancaster

Today is the day. Pumpkin spice season is officially upon us. Personally, not a big PSL fan. I am, however, a cool-weather, crunchy-leaves-under-my-feet-on-a-trail fan.
Happy first day of fall, Loopers.

See ya ‘round Lancaster!

Today’s cover art showcases… Tatiana Tisdale and her painting from last Monday’s Our Town Unplugged event. She beautified this 6.5-gallon jug that’ll collect change for a local organization: A Week Away. A local org that finances and coordinates respite weeks away for families battling life-threatening illnesses. If you’re nearby Our Town Brewery, consider stopping past to off-load your loose change!

OUR TOWN UNPLUGGED RECAP

Last Monday we turned off the lights at Our Town Brewery again and lit up a few dozen Fontana candles. Every guest checked their phones & smartwatches at the door and settled into an evening of digital detox.

Kerry & Ryan from Barn Boy Games joined to showcase their card game creation headed to Kickstarter, Height Fight. Catch a sneak peek in next week’s newsletter.

Four acoustic sets filled the room with tunes. The whole event was captured on four disposable cameras. Perfect Image Lancaster, today’s newsletter sponsor, developed and scanned the images for your viewing pleasure!

Cheers to a full week of delayed gratification and while I waited to get the photos back from development. Here’s a sneak peek in the gif below. To see the full set of photos without the blur overlay, head over to Perfect Image where you can view, download, or purchase any photo.

Your next chance to unplug at Our Town Unplugged will be October 12th from 4-9p.

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS EVENT

Some of the most fascinating people I meet are those who placed a big bet on themselves. Some start businesses, others head off seeking travel adventures, and another group writes books.

Amy Garnet & Mary Walsh LOVE seeing words on a page, so much so that they created an event now in its 6th year. bringing together book lovers and authors.

The Books Books Books Event brings together authors and readers. This Saturday, at “The Barn,” located at Wyndham Resort on Lincoln Highway, visit over 125 authors showcasing their published works of art.

Amy has kindly donated 2 VIP tickets valued at $100 for a lucky Loop reader. The VIP session runs from 10-12p with general admission following from 12-5p. VIP is already sold out, but there are general admission tickets still available. Every $5 ticket gets you a free tote.

Any guess enters you to win 2 VIP tickets to Books, Books, Books…

LANCASTER WATCH WEEKEND

Lancaster seems to have grown up on watches. The county was a hot spot of watch manufacturing from grandfather-clock craftsmen in the 1700s all the way to the late 1900s with Hamilton keeping the railroads on time.

This weekend brings the spotlight back to your wrist. Go check out events across the county.

A full run of events Friday through Sunday includes classes, gatherings, launches, and kinship. Celebrate Lancaster’s history of watchmaking with several local businesses and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.

Take a class to learn what makes a watch tick and put tools in your hands while disassembling and reassembling a watch.

10th ANNUAL DIVERSITY IN MEDICINE CONFERENCE

Breakfast kicks off at 8a. Tickets start at $30 with scholarship options if cost is a barrier.

If a watch on your wrist isn’t your vibe, maybe a stethoscope around your neck is.

LANCASTER CAPITAL DAY

Capital for a Day.

For one day in 1777, Lancaster was the capital of the United States, and this Saturday, downtown is running it back. Lancaster Capital Day takes over Penn Square from 10-5p with a free festival tied to America's 250th.

Expect historical character performers roaming the square, enjoy live music, and lots of activities. Kids enjoy face painting, magicians, storytelling and building blocks, while grown-ups explore a wine and beer garden, a car show, art exhibits and caricatures. Food trucks round it out.

Join for the first offical celebration of our one day of fame.

I’m really enjoying the delayed gratification between click and view that comes with a film camera. Like many of you I grew up on film and still love flipping through an old album.

You can tap into the physical appreciation that comes from film at Perfect Image on Fruitville Pike. Stop in for film processing, photo print outs, lessons, buying a camera, or meeting some fellow flash-loving folks.

They are also currently sourcing submissions for the fourth edition of their Analog magazine. Submit your work for a chance to land your photos in print.

LANCASTER LOOP DINNER CLUB

Thank you to all who came out for the 5th Dinner Club last Thursday. The after party landed at Tellus with karaoke. Yes, we were surprised to hear a Frozen song, but cheers, somehow it’s a catchy tune.

Many thanks as well to Isabel Imbriano for designing the Dinner Club buttons. It was very cool to look across the venue and see all the Loopers rockin’ their buttons.

Next Dinner Club date is loading….

OUR TOWN UNPLUGGED

The 3rd Unplugged event is planned for October 12th. Details to come.

Where’s Wal’Ed’o?

Last week I was wandering through Central Market. It was a quieter mid-morning visit and I happened to look up. I was stuck by the wood ceiling and all the architecture. The market was designed in the Romanesque Revival style by James H. Warner, an English architect who gave it the twin 72-foot towers and the massive open ceiling. Fun fact: The whole thing was built from start to finish in just six months.

Congrats to Kelly Bortzfield, who guessed correctly. Look for an email this morning. The guesses were from all over and from a variety of buildings, which is part of why I love Lancaster and all the older buildings we have nearby.

Know a local shop you’d love to see featured in Where’s Wal’Ed’o? Shoot me a reply or an introduction to the owner. Feel free to forward this email to them as a starter.

Here’s a clue: There’s plenty I suggest trying here, including the sammie inspired by Cylo. But my hands-down favorite on the must order list are the OG smash, the onion rings, a chocolate chip cookie (daughters’ votes), or any tractor fountain drink.

As always, thanks for staying… in the ‘Loop! -Ed
