Welcome back, friends.

May sunshine find your smile this week. It’s a beautiful time to be outside touching some grass. This week someone introduced me to a novel concept…’forest’ can also be seen as ‘for rest’. I recently popped out for a quick hike at the Windolph Landing Nature Preserve. Such a treat. I hope your May is full of flowers.

This week’s cover photo is by my buddy and Lanco Hunts partner, Mike Porto. Mike and I have collaborated on the two previous editions of the Lanco Hunts scavenger hunt for Lancaster County. We’ve cooked up a fun 3rd edition with over 60 winners and $2,650 in prizes. Find the full details below and if your business has ANY filter needs consider Mike your guy. He’s full of passion, gives back thru teaching, and loves Lancaster and oh yeah filters.

LANCO HUNTS PRESENTS:

DON’T FORGET YOUR MOTHER’S DAY

Today is Tuesday and in five quick days it’ll be Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in the Loop!

In celebration of Mother’s Day this year, Mike and I are excited to launch the next round of Lanco Hunts.

This Saturday, May 9th, from 10am to 4pm you are invited to participate in the “Don’t Forget Your Mother’s Day” scavenger hunt.

Together with our title sponsor, PCI Auctions, we’ve built out a very exciting next round to support five local businesses and give you chances to win a part of…

…over $2,650 in prizes!

There will be over 60 individual winners of gift cards to the below Lancaster businesses.

Additionally, four grand prize winners will each receive a gift card for $250 if they uncover the 5th mystery local business. Be one of the first four people to arrive at the 5th business after collecting all of the clues and you’ll immediately win!

Here’s how it works:

  • Visit all 4 of the local businesses listed below for a chance to win the grand prize.

  • Just want to enter 1 or 2 raffles? …visit any of the businesses below.

  • The more businesses you visit, the more raffles you’ll enter.

  • To win the grand prize, you must visit all 4 to uncover the 5th mystery location.

  • At each business you’ll scan a QR code and answer a riddle.

  • Enter your response and if correct you’ll receive a clue towards the 5th location.

  • At each location, a correct answer will also enter you in a raffle to receive a gift card from that business.

  • The raffle winners at each of the four locations below will be announced Tuesday 5/12 in the newsletter and via email.

  • Be one of the first 4 people to the mystery business to win a grand prize.

The four businesses where you’ll find clues:

  • Central Market Flowers @ 258 N Queen Street Lancaster, PA

    • six $25 gift cards

  • Nouvelle Nails @ 608 Richmond Drive, Suite 102 Lancaster, PA

    • twenty $25 gift cards

  • Brent L. Miller Jewelers @ 1600 Manheim Pike Lancaster, PA

    • five $100 gift cards

  • The PotteryWorks @ 16 West Orange Street Lancaster, PA

    • twenty $25 gift cards

  • 5th Mystery Business @ Will you uncover it?

    • four $250 gift cards (keep it or have a wonderful Mother’s Day gift)

Visit each store beginning at 10 am and until 4 pm this Saturday May 9th.

Grab your mom or a friend and head to any of the four businesses for a quick and easy chance to win a gift card there.

Or pack some snacks and energy drinks and hit all four to hopefully claim one of the 4 grand prizes at the final 5th mystery business location.

Where’s Wal’Ed’o?

A bit of a stumper this past week. The clue ‘Icarus would have appreciated this place’ was directing you to think of flying at Lancaster Airport which houses Fiorentino's Italian Restaurant.

Congrats to Donna Viera, winner of a gift card to Fiorentino’s. Check your email later today, grab a friend, and watch some planes take off while enjoying a great meal.

Know a local shop you’d love to see featured? If you know a great business, shop, or restaurant reach out to me. Bonus points if you can intro me to the owner! Just forward this email to the owner or GM - I welcome the introduction.

P.S. Property is brought to you by Jeremy Ganse with RE/Max Smarthub

5 bed | 2 bath with off-street parking, a fenced backyard, and a 7 minute walk to Amtrak

P.P.S You likely know today is Cinco de Mayo, but since you are clearly a person of elite culture who reads all the way to the bottom of emails…here’s an extra bonus fact.

Back in 1862, Mexico was in financial ruin (civil war bills add up), so President Juárez called time-out on their debt payments. Welp…France, Britain, and Spain came to collect. The Brits & Spainards had a chat and negotiated. France & Napoleon (no, not that one…this one was Bonaparte’s nephew, Napoleon III) said “no bueno” and decided to battle seeking to establish the French empire in the Americas, desperately wanting to counter US expansion and gain access to Mexican resources.

In Puebla, 4,500 Mexican soldiers faced off against what was considered one of the finest armies in the world and won. Massive morale victory. France did regroup and took Mexico City, but 5 years later packed up and withdrew, in 1867.

Interestingly, most of Mexico barely celebrates it outside of Puebla these days. We have 1980s beer, wine, and tequila companies to thank for turning it into the margarita holiday we know today.
